On May 22, 2015, Icom issued a firmware upgrade for the ID-5100 radio. The RT Systems programmer was modified within days of that upgrade to address all the changes. One change in particular that could be of concern to a new user is that of Tones.
The original version of the radio had the following Tone Modes:
- Tone - transmit only to the repeater
- TSQL - Transmit and Receive of the same tone
- TSQL R - Reverse Tone function
- DTCS - DCS code transmit and receive
- DTCS R - Reverse DCS function.
In the E3 version of the radio Tone Modes were expanded to include:
- Tone - transmit only to the repeater
- TSQL - Transmit and Receive of the same tone
- TSQL R - Reverse Tone function
- DTCS - DCS code transmit and receive
- DTCS R - Reverse DCS function.
- D Code - DCS transmit only
- D Tone - DCS transmit / CTCSS receive
- T DCS - CTCSS transmit / DCS receive
- Split Tone - Different CTCSS frequencies for each transmit and receive.
The "Reverse" tone function is explained in detail in the operating manual for the radio.
