Watch it done here (About 4 minutes)

Or read about he FTM-6000 - This is good information to help get you going on that new radio.

Hi, it's Karin at RT Systems. We've got the new FTM6000 here, and I wanted to show you a couple of the, sort of, gotchas. you're liable to run into when you're programming it and when you're using it.

Name / Frequency toggle

The first one is really a cool thing. Notice I have names displayed for my memory channels. Well, I want to know what frequency this is.

I'm going to push and hold the knob, and now I have frequencies. Just so you know, I have frequencies for everything now. But I just push and hold again, and I'm back to name. I have to admit, this has to be the... easiest way to change between name and frequency that I have seen on a radio in a long time.

Turning the knob to CLONE TX.... when the radio ignores your turning

The next is kind of a gotcha, but let's turn the radio off.

We're going to hold the F1 key while we turn the radio on. Notice I let go of it as the Voltage came up and it says CLONE.

The next step in clone is to press the knob and notice it goes to clone Rx and I can turn the knob and it's just one click and it goes between Rx and Tx but I'm turning the knob

I'm turning the knob counterclockwise, I'm on Rx and Tx. And it didn't go in anywhere. And now it's on

So it's not that you're doing anything wrong. But if you come in to clone Rx, which is the first of the choices, and you turn the knob in the wrong direction, you're going to wonder where clone TX is....Turn the knob the other way.

You're going to find lots of cases with this radio where when you're turning the knob, stepping through a list, and this is just a little bitty list, when you get to the top or the bottom of it, It does not rotate back around. You turn the knob in the other direction. I noticed that when I was working in the menu, which is the F key.

And so it's just sort of a characteristic of this radio. When you get to the top of the list, you turn the knob the other way to start back down. And when you get to the bottom of the list, you turn the knob the other way to go back up. Just a few things about this radio that I thought might make it easier for you.

The programmer is available from the RT Systems site or from your local ham radio equipment dealer And you'll have it so you can get your radio up and running and ready to go. Hope this helps. It's Karin, KD4DXX. And remember, if you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right!! ..... 73s!
