On the FTM-500 (and probably several other of the FTM radios), Communications | Get data from radio or |Send data to radio will begin data transfer immediately when OK is clicked on the Get Data from screen before the last three steps are completed when menu item number 69 (Com Port) Output is set to GPS Out.
The process should look like this in the programmer
The options for this setting are GPS Out, Packet, and Waypoint. Packet and Waypoint do not affect the programming process. GPS Out, however, takes control of the data transfer and allows no other information to pass. in other words, it stops you from being able to program the radio.
Resolution is to set menu item 69 to Off and try the Communications process of the Programmer again.
