Cannot Open Settings File: Error - Attempted an unsupported operation

Modified on Fri, May 23 at 5:04 PM

Machine has lost the MSMask.ocx registration.
  1. First, run the updater for the programmer. Access it through Help | Check for updates and follow the steps to complete. This can put the registration back if the file is there.
  2. Check for the file in Windows\SysWOW64 (the machine I was on this morning did not have it there; your guess is as good as mine as to where it went!!)
  3. If it is not there; reinstall.
The installer will put it in place and register it.
  4. If it is there, presumably it is not registered (this happens ocassionally with these files on computers).

Follow these steps to correct:

Right Click on the Windows Start emblem

Select Run

In the Run box type:
regsvr32 c:\Windows\syswow64\msmask32.ocx

This error may be raised. It is not fatal. Click OK.

Programs like cc_cleaner can cause this problem.
