The IC-9700 has two displays that reflect two receivers: a main at the top and a sub at the bottom. Notice, that said two RECEIVERS not two transmitters. The radio transmits on the MAIN band except when it is in Split Frequency operation.
To select the Main band or Sub band, touch the screen of the radio. This, however, will not make the sub band transmit. Even if the sub-band is active, when you key the mic, the transmission will be sent from the frequency that is no longer active on the Main (top) band.
To swap the Main and Sub band frequencies, press and hold the Main [M/S] knob for 1 second until the display changes.
