The TYT TH-350 radio came originally with a 5 character name display. You might still be able to get these today.
Others of these radios have an 8 character name display.
The RT Systems programmer handles both of these configurations in one programmer; however, you must make a change in the programmer to be able to enter the correct number of characters and have them appear on the radio properly.
NOTE: When you change from 8 to 5 characters, the name field of ALL files opened from that point on is truncated to 5 characters. In other words, you are going to LOSE the names you entered for your 8-character radio.
To prevent your having to rebuild your names, make a copy of the file with 8 characters and store it in a safe place on your hard drive. Then, do NOT open it when the programmer is in 5 character mode.
Once the programmer is returned to 8 character mode, you can safely open that copy and have your 8 character names as originally entered.
This is not a problem if you only program your radio. You won't be changing between 5 and 8 characters on this unit.
The programmer is in 5 character mode by default.
To switch to 8 character mode,
- Select Settings | Number Name Characters and set the option to 8 Characters.
- CLOSE THE PROGRAMMER (save your file if you have been working in it).
- When you reopen it, either into your saved file or into a default file, you will be able to enter 8 characters.
