IC-705 USB-C Modification

Modified on Fri, Jul 5 at 4:32 PM

We have had several customers reach out asking if our software will remain compatible with their 705s if they install a USB-C port on the radio. As it turns out, this modification is a simple board swap which replaces the radio's Micro-USB control board with a USB-C control board.

We decided to preform the board swap on one of our in-house radios and we are pleased to report that the radio is still fully compatible with our software.

The radio seems to identify just the same as it did before when plugged in via new USB port. Note that the computer in the image below has Icom's own IC-705 drivers installed on it. This is why the radio shows up with its own name. Generic derivers can also work with the 705 but will have the radio show up with a generic name. Just something to be aware of.
