Well, pictures will do us no good this time. These three radios are visually the same... but they are not the same "under the covers".
UV-5G - Comes with Channels 1-30 preprogrammed with GMRS simplex and repeater frequencies. You can change the Operating Mode, the Name, the Tone Mode, the Tone value, TX power (where not limited by the FRS shared frequencies), Busy Lock option, Scanning option, PTT ID and Signal Code for each. But, you cannot change the frequency or offset direction on any of these. In other words, if you want to use the 462.600 repeater, you will have to do it on channel 25 not on channel 17 as channel 17 cannot be changed from Simplex although it is on the right frequency.
The radio will transmit on other channels (above 30) programmed with GMRS frequencies.
Ham band frequencies can be entered for listening only.
This radio does not transmit in VFO mode: GMRS or otherwise.
UV-5G Pro - Use the same programmer and files that you use for the UV-5G radio. This radio has the same preprogrammed channels for 1-30 and the same limitation for transmission on channels above 30.
Ham band frequencies in memory or VFO are still for receive only.
This radio transmits on the GMRS frequencies while in VFO mode.
UV-5G Plus - Included in this package because of the similarity in numbering. This radio is very different. It is not preprogrammed with 30 GMRS frequencies. It transmits in the Ham and GMRS bands Use the BAO-UV5GPlus Programmer for this model.
During installation of the RT Systems Programmer, you will be presented with this screen. Select your option or install them all. One will work.
