IC-2820: Erratic Mouse movement with USB-RTS05 Cable

Modified on Thu, Jan 16 at 11:43 AM

The Icom IC-2820 can be programmed using the USB-RTS05 or the USB-29A cable. The USB-29A cable is recommended for programming.

The data port that the USB-RTS05 cable uses does other functions that pass data out that port. This data flow not only interferes with programming, it causes strange behavior on the computer screen.

  • It's data and commands. The computer must do something with it.
  • It also is data and commands that have the connection tied up. Think of listening to two people talking at one time... does not work very well, right???

The speaker port into which the USB-29A cable is connected does not suffer from this interference.

Be aware that you must turn off GPS from the controls on the front of the radio when using the USB-RTS05 cable for programming. Erratic movement of the mouse will occur if GPS is on.
