Some new computers have ARM rather than Intel processors. These machines pose significant problems with radio programming especially as it applies to drivers for communications between the computer and the radio.
Analog radios that use the RT Systems cables with electronics included (those with the big heads) must have the drivers installed manually. Not a hard process; but, very different from how this process is done on a system with an Intel processor. details for that process can be found here ARM Driver Installation - a Manual Process
At the time of this writing, DMR radio fell into two categories: those that work and those that don't work with an ARM process system. Radios from Anytone, Alinco, BTECH and Radioddity work. They may need a little help completing driver installation (No Port Found). But, once completed, the unit appears as a serial port in Device Manager under Ports (com and lpt) and everything works.
Radios from TYT, Retevis and Baofeng do not work with a computer with an ARM processor. We cannot find drivers for these. The device shows up in Device Manager as shown under Other. This will not work for programming.
We also found the computer with the ARM processor very slow to load the programmers for the DMR radios. Two factors seemed to contribute to this delay. First, these are large files that are being processed for use. Second seems to be an antivirus process running in the background. Once that finished, the speed improved.
If anyone has additional information about drives for the second group of radios on a computer with an ARM processor, please let us know at techsupport@rtsystemsinc.com
