FT-70: Priority Channel Function (Dual Watch)

Modified on Sat, Apr 26 at 3:22 PM

Priority Operations or Dual Watch as Yaesu calls it can be turned on and off only from the face of the radio. Options for the function and selection of the priority channel are done easily in the programmer. The programmer does not turn it on and off.

The two options for this function are:

1) Set the priority channel.

  • Select the channel by clicking on the number to the left. Notice the entire line is highlighted blue to let you know what you selected.
  • Click Edit from the menu at the top.
  • Click Set Priority Channel from the list.
  • A "P" will appear with the channel number to let you know the designation has been made.

2) Set the DW Time, DW Resume, and DW Revert options.

  • Select Settings | Radio Menu Settings from the menu at the top of the screen
  • Select the Operating tab of the settings screens.
  • Set DW Time - This is how often the radio switches between the current channel and the priority channel. The lower the setting, the faster it will switch.
  • Set DW Resume - This is how long the radio remains on the priority signal.

Set to 2-10 seconds for the signal to remain for only that time.

Hold for the function to cease. The radio remains on the current frequency (i.e., memory channel OR Priority Channel whichever was listening last).

Busy for the function to listen until the signal is lost for 2 second. Then Dual Watch resums.

  • Set DW Revert - When engaged, you do not have to wait for a signal on the Priority Channel to transmit on that channel. When you key up, the radio will go automatically to the Priority Channel. Dual Watch resumes after 5 seconds of no activity on the Priority channel.

Now, you will engage the function from the face of the radio. We want you to know that you have engaged this function so you are not surprised by unexpected behavior on your radio.

  • From the face of the radio, press the [F] key then the [V/M] key.
  • You will notice a DW that appears beneath the frequency about the middle of the screen.
  • Dual watch will begin.

Dual Watch does not go off when you turn off the radio. To disable it, press the [V/M] key. The DW will disappear from the face of the radio indicating that the function has ceased.
